What is a face recognition system?

A face recognition system is software that identifies a person by comparing the face in a camera image with enrolled people. The result becomes an action: a pass is approved, a card is printed or an entry/exit record is created.

All four of our products belong to the same field but answer a different question. The right product depends on the question you need to solve.

Which one should I choose?

  • If you want to decide who may enter a place: Face Guard.
  • If visitors' identity is verified and a card is issued: SelfPass.
  • If staff entry and exit will be recorded: Presence. For employees, assess the KVKK limits first.
  • To recognize students at the school entrance and notify parents: Janus. Children's data is especially sensitive, so assess the legal framework first.
  • If you are unsure: in the first meeting we review the purpose and the alternatives together. Sometimes the right answer is a non-biometric method.

Face recognition and KVKK: what to know before installing

Face data is biometric and counts as special category personal data under KVKK in Türkiye. The Personal Data Protection Board looks closely at proportionality, notice and whether an alternative is offered. Principle Decision 2026/921 restricts the processing of biometric data for employee working-time tracking. Biometric data about children, such as students, is especially sensitive; consent and notice matter most in school settings.

In Northern Cyprus, the Law on the Protection of Personal Data No. 89/2007 applies. For details, read our guide to face recognition and KVKK.

Frequently asked questions about face recognition systems

What is a face recognition system?

A face recognition system is software that identifies a person by comparing the face in a camera image with enrolled people. It enables passes, identity verification or records without anyone carrying a card or key.

What is the difference between Face Guard, SelfPass, Presence and Janus?

Face Guard controls who can enter a building. SelfPass verifies a visitor at a kiosk with their face and ID card and issues a card. Presence records staff entry and exit through cameras and a kiosk. Janus recognizes students from the school gate camera and notifies parents by SMS, WhatsApp or e-mail, after teacher approval or automatically as the school chooses.

Is a face recognition system compliant with KVKK?

It is not the system itself but its purpose and how it is run that decide: the legal basis, proportionality, notice, security measures and retention period are assessed together. For employee working-time tracking, the Board's latest decision means biometric methods should be avoided.

How does face recognition system pricing work?

After understanding your needs, we present a fixed-price, itemized quote. Once approved, the price doesn’t change — no surprise costs.
